The landslide occurred at Dangesi village under Raikia block amid heavy rain triggered by cyclone Arnab, a state minister said.

“Shri @MohanMOdisha has conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family. Furthermore, he has announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each, to be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), to the next of kin of the deceased,” the Chief Minister’s Office said in a post on X.

The deceased were identified as Achyuta Pradhan (30) and his wife Anisha Pradhan (25). The name of their nine-month-old child was not disclosed.

Two other people, including an elderly person, were rescued and moved to safety by emergency personnel, officials said.

Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik said around 450 people from the affected area had been evacuated and accommodated at a relief camp.

District Collector Vedbhusan said the administration was closely monitoring the situation. Disaster response personnel were deployed to clear debris and assist those affected by the landslide.

Cyclone Arnab caused widespread damage across several parts of Odisha Thursday. Ganjam was the worst-affected district, while Gajapati and Kandhamal also reported damage, officials said.
