Odisha eves blank Telangana

Odisha and Telangana players in action during their match at Cuttack, Saturday    

Cuttack: Odisha spanked Telangana 5-0 in their match of the National Senior Women’s Football Championships here, Saturday. Anju Tamang (37th and 41st minutes) scored twice while Damayanti Triya (39th), Subhadra Sahu (83rd) and Arati Sethi (87th) scored one goal apiece.

In other matches, Haryana drubbed Uttar Pradesh 11-0 while West Bengal humiliated Gujarat 18-0 and Railway outplayed Goa 9-0.

Back to winning ways

After losing their previous match, Sunrise Club returned to winning ways as they handed Odisha Police a 4-0 thrashing in their FAO 1st Division Football League match at the Barabati Stadium here, Saturday.

Md Fayas put the three-time champions ahead inside four minutes of the start before Bharat Munda doubled the advantage in the 23rd minute. After the change of ends, Ambika Lakra put Sunrise Club 3-0 up on 70 minutes before Fayas completing the rout with his second on the day three minutes later.

In the other match, Sports Hostel got a walkover as their opponents for the day Bidanasi Club didn’t turn up.

Krishna included

Left-arm spinner Krishna Pallai was named in the Odisha team in New Delhi Saturday for the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Suresh Raina-led Uttar Pradesh, Sunday.

The decision was taken after the team management realised that the team need an extra spin option due to slow pitches. Odisha have lost their first two matches in the tournament.

Raison selected

Raisan Tudu of the Sports Hostel, Baripada has been selected in the Indian team for the Asian U-18 Schools Football Championships at Agra, October 20-30.
