Odisha: Ex-Army jawan arrested for fraud in Ganjam district

Berhampur: A dismissed Army jawan has been arrested for allegedly duping at least three people in Odisha’s Ganjam district on the pretext of providing them jobs in defence services, police said.

Santosh Kumar Sethi (33) was dismissed from service for long absence and indiscipline, they said.

Three cases of cheating were registered against Sethi in January based on the complaints of those he allegedly duped, a police officer said.

The accused had managed to evade police till now, but was finally nabbed on Wednesday, SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M said.

He had taken cash worth around Rs 50,000 from the three complainants in the month of January with the promise of providing jobs in defence services, the officer said.

Police have recovered images of online transactions with the complainants and some other persons, besides a motorbike and mobile phone sets, from the possession of the accused, the SP added.
