Odisha: Former Congress MLA Birendra Chandra Pandey passes away

Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and former Jharsuguda MLA Birendra Chandra Pandey passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar Sunday.

A source said Pandey was first admitted to a private hospital in Sambalpur after suffering from liver-related problems. Later, he was shifted to Bhubaneswar after his condition deteriorated.

He was 74. He is survived by his two sons and a daughter. Pandey was elected from the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency thrice in 1980, 1985 and 1995 on Congress tickets.

In his condolence message, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep sadness over the death of the former MLA. His work as a people’s representative will always be remembered. He prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed his sympathies to the bereaved family members.

OPCC President Sarat Patnaik said he was deeply saddened to hear about the death of the former MLA. His contributions to public service will always be remembered, Patnaik said, and he expressed his condolences to his family and friends.
