Odisha: Acid attack over chicken theft injures four in Bolangir district

Bolangir: As many as four people of a family sustained burn injuries after they were attacked by their neighbours over the allegation of chicken theft in Bangomunda area in Odisha’s Bolangir district, a source said Saturday.

According to the source, Sanju Sahu and her brother Tulasi Sahu lived as neighbours in Bangomunda area. The two neighbouring families got into a heated argument Friday after a chicken belonging to Tulasi Sahu went missing Thursday night. Tulasi accused Sanju of stealing his chicken. Afterwards, male and female members of both families got into an altercation which later turned into a fistfight.

Amid the brawl, Tulasi and his son Nepal Sahu allegedly threw acid – which was meant to be used for jewellery making — at Sanju along with three members of her family.

The other three injured persons were identified as Jagabandhu Sahu, Khageswar Sahu, and Subash Sahu.

After being informed, Bangomunda police reached the spot and sent the injured persons to Kantabanji Community Health Centre (CHC). All four victims were later shifted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir for better treatment.

Based on the FIR filed by the victims, police arrested Nepal Sahu and his father Tulasi Sahu.

The accused were produced before the local court after their medical examination.
