Bhubaneswar: Central Goods and Services Tax (GST) officials raided various branches of a coaching institute in Bhubaneswar for suspected tax evasion, a source said Wednesday.
According to the source, the sleuths raided as many as three centers of ‘Vanik Institute’ in Bhubaneswar. Along with that, another GST team carried out raids at the institute’s Kolkata branch.
The officials examined various documents and seized some during the raid, the source added.
The GST team — consisting of as many as 25 officials — launched the raid Tuesday night in Bhubaneswar.
The raids were underway at the time of filing this report.
It can be mentioned here that Vanik Institute is a private coaching institute that provides coaching for various government sector examinations such as civil service examination (UPSC/OPSC CSE), SSC and Bank PO among others.
