Odisha weather alert: Mercury jumps past 44-degree mark in Bhubaneswar as IMD flags Orange Warning

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar predicted heatwave conditions to prevail in various pockets of Odisha till Monday.

The agency issued an Orange Warning for heatwave to severe heatwave conditions across several Odisha districts, in its weather alert June 17, 2023. Maximum and minimum temperatures in Bhubaneswar are very likely to be around 44 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius respectively.

Upto 8.30 AM of June 18: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh and Kandhamal districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over Nuapada, Kalahandi, Ganjam and Jajpur districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface windspeed reaching 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal.

Besides, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Sundargarh and Deogarh districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and at one or two places over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of June 18 to 8.30 AM of June 19: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places over Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Boudh, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda and Bolangir districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nuapada districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangapur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and at one or two places over the rest districts of the state.

The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum (day) temperature over the next three days and a gradual fall by 3-5 degree Celsius in the subsequent two days at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 4-7 degree Celsius at a few places in the state over the next three days. Consequently, hot and humid weather is likely during the next 3-4 days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during 11am-3pm.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 45.6 degree Celsius was recorded at Subarnapur while the lowest minimum temperature of 24.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Phulbani and Nayagarh, the weather alert informed.
