Odisha Intercity Express locomotive briefly uncouples from coaches after Balangir departure

Bhubaneswar: The locomotive of a train briefly uncoupled from the passenger coaches after it left Balangir station in Odisha Sunday, officials said.

The incident occurred shortly after the 12894 Purunakatak-Bhubaneswar Intercity SF Express departed from the station around 3 pm, they said.

The locomotive moved ahead by about one kilometre, leaving the passenger coaches behind, before railway staff re-coupled it with the coaches, they added.

The East Coast Railway said the situation was promptly handled without causing inconvenience to passengers or disrupting other train operations.

After necessary safety checks were completed, the train resumed its journey around 3.40 pm, officials said.

Passengers inside the coaches faced moments of panic after the train came to a halt unexpectedly without the locomotive attached.
