Bhubaneswar: The special Vigilance court Tuesday sentenced a former junior clerk to rigorous imprisonment of one year and six months holding him guilty in a bribery case. The convict, Ladukeswar Prasad Mohapatra has been asked to deposit a fine of Rs 2,000 as well.
March 13, 2010, the bolero vehicle of the complainant, Santosh Kumar Pradhan, was checked near Pipili by the Regional Transport Office staff of Puri. They issued a manual Vehicle Checking Report (VCR) for non-production of document by the driver of the vehicle.
Pradhan produced the required documents in RTO office and deposited the fine amount May 13, 2010. However, the convict asked him for a bribe of Rs 100 for supply of the receipt of the fine amount.
On being informed, Vigilance sleuths caught Mohapatra red-handed while receiving money from Pradhan at his office the next day.
Special public prosecutor (Vigilance) Hemant Kumar Swain conducted the trial on behalf of the vigilance.
Similarly, four other persons including a former Sarpanch were convicted in three different cases of corruption in different parts of the state Tuesday. The convicts include Gokul Chandra Nayak, Ex-Asst. Agriculture Officer of Umarkote in Nabarangpur district, Kunu Bhuyan, retired head clerk, Salekram Dhurua, former Junior Clerk at the office of Hemgir Block Education Officer in Sundargarh district and Purna Chandra Bisoi, the former Sarpanch of Mandar Gram Panchayat of Polasara block in Ganjam.
