Boudh: In a tragic incident reminiscent of the infamous Dana Majhi incident, family members had to carry a person’s body to their home on shoulders after the hearse did not arrive in time at the hospital under Baunsuni police limits in Boudh district Sunday.
Meanwhile, personnel from Manamunda police station failed to show up even five hours after the man’s death. The deceased, identified as 50-year-old Thakur Meher, drowned in a pond at Karamapadar village under Manamunda police limits Monday afternoon.
Family members rescued him unconscious around 12:30 pm and rushed him to the Baunsuni hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. However, despite passage of five hours after the death, Manamunda police did not arrive at the hospital.

The hearse was also late, leading to anger among the relatives, who eventually carried the body back home on their shoulders. Videos of the scene went viral on social media, drawing sharp reactions from locals.
When contacted, Manamunda police station in-charge Anjali Biswal said no formal complaint had been received. “We recovered the body midway and sent it for post-mortem,” she said.
Baunsuni police IIC Sarada Prasanna Das confirmed that a written intimation had been submitted but said the family had mentioned that they did not want a case registered. “We informed Manamunda police, and they will take it forward,” he added
