Odisha: Man killed in plot to eliminate nephew

Barbil: A man, who had hired contract killers to eliminate his nephew over property dispute, was shot dead over payment of advance money near Damu hutting under Barbil police limits in Keonjhar, police said Tuesday.

The deceased Duhsashan Barik, an employee of Orissa Mineral Development Company (OMDC), was a resident of Thakurani Dalki slum under Barbil police limits, Barbil IIC Pramodini Sahu said, adding that he was shot dead April 7 night and his bullet-riddled body was recovered the next day.

The incident came to the fore with the arrest of three of the four accused. The arrested accused Sahadat Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Nehal Khan, all natives under Kothi police limits in Gaya district of Bihar, were residing under Barbil police limits.

Another accused Waris Khan, also from Bihar, is on the run, the IIC said, adding that the murder weapon is yet to be recovered. About the turn of events, the IIC said Duhsashan had a longstanding property dispute with his sister for which he hired contract killers at Rs 5 lakh to eliminate her son.

“Although Duhsashan had promised to pay Rs 2 lakh as advance, he paid only Rs 40,000 to the contract killers. Irked, one of the accused shot the OMDC employee dead April 7,” police said, adding his body was found at Damu hutting the next day.

Police recovered two live bullets and Duhsashan’s bike near his body. Police interrogated his family members and kin but failed to get any clues. Later, police collected Duhsashan’s phone call details and the footage of CCTVs installed in the town. During probe, police found Duhsashan’s frequent phone calls to Sahadat. Later, Sahadat was brought to the police station, where he confessed to have killed Duhsashan.
