Odisha police sub-inspector held over alleged physical, mental harassment of wife

Arrest

Bhadrak: A police sub-inspector was arrested in Odisha’s Bhadrak district Sunday for allegedly subjecting his wife to physical and mental harassment, an officer said.

Gananath Sethi, 36, a resident of Daspalla in Nayagarh district, was arrested following a complaint filed by his wife, Bhadrak Town police station inspector-in-charge Pravansu Sekhar Mishra said.

According to the FIR, the couple had been facing marital disputes for some time, and repeated attempts by family members and others to resolve the matter amicably had failed.

The woman alleged that her husband continued to subject her to physical and mental harassment despite efforts at reconciliation, Mishra said.

The victim had also earlier lodged a complaint at Balugaon police station, which is in her native area. Their marriage was conducted according to Hindu rituals about a year ago. The woman alleged that her husband subjected her to both mental and physical harassment, he said.

Police investigated the allegations and arrested Sethi, who was posted in the Bhadrak Town police station, based on the complaint.

He was produced before a court following his arrest. The court rejected his bail plea and remanded him to judicial custody.
