Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has restruc tured the pharmacy cadre and prepared a job chart for phar macists, fulfilling a long-stand ing demand of 39 years, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling said Sunday.
The minister made the state ment while attending the General Council Meeting and one day annual state conference organised by the Odisha Phar macy Officers’ Service Associ ation at Rama Devi Women’s University.
Addressing the gathering, Mahaling said the restructuring of the pharmacy cadre was a significant step towards strengthening the state’s healthcare system. “
The restructuring of the pharmacy cadre was a 39-year old demand. Respecting this demand, our government has restructured the cadre.
A job chart has also been prepared to clearly define the duties and responsibilities of pharmacists,” he said.
He said the government, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has been working to strengthen human resources in the health sector while giving due importance to the responsibilities and rights of healthcare workers.
The minister further said approval has been given for 1,108 new Pharmacy Officer posts in the state to strengthen pharmacy services.
These posts will be filled at the earliest, he added. He also said the government was seriously considering the association’s demand to imple ment the Pharmacy Council of India—Recruitment and Promotion Service Rules, 2025, which are already in force in 20 states.
The department has also communicated detailed job responsibilities of Pharmacy Officers to bring greater clarity to their roles and duties, Mahaling said.
He noted that pharmacists play an important role in dis pensing medicines, ensuring their safe use and providing medication-related advice. Strength ening pharmacy services would therefore contribute to improving the overall quality of health care delivery in the state.
