Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) has issued over 60,000 e-challans in a single day for violations of various traffic norms, officials said Thursday.
The STA in its official X handle said: “On the second day of the ‘Zero Fatality Week’ aimed at preventing road accidents, strict enforcement actions were taken against violators of road safety rules, resulting in a total of 60,242 e-challans issued September 2, 2026 (Wednesday).”
Among these e-challans, the major rule violations were riding without a helmet (33,061 challans), speeding (5,681), triple riding (1,820) and driving a vehicle without valid insurance (1,722), an official said.
The STA has launched the ‘Zero Fatality Week’ campaign aiming to strengthen enforcement of road safety regulations and encourage motorists to follow traffic rules to prevent accidents and save lives.
The department urged people to exercise caution, comply with traffic regulations and adopt safe driving practices.
On the first day of the week, September 1, as many as 44,746 e-challans were issued against traffic violators, they said.
