Bhubaneswar: Even five days following the horrific train accident at Bahanaga Bazar Railway station, as many as 119 injured passengers are still undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack.
Last Friday’s disastrous train accident involving the Shalimar -Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru -Howrah Superfast Express and a Goods train dated June 2, had claimed 288 lives while more than 1,000 passengers were injured.
Official sources said that as many as 201 injured passengers were rushed to SCBMCH in Cuttack.
Till Wednesday while 82 have been discharged from the hospital, 119 injured persons are still undergoing treatment in Orthopaedic, Ophthalmology, Surgery and Neurosurgery departments, the sources informed.
Special medical teams have been formed to take care of the patients. Sources said 14 out of the 119 patients are getting treated in ICU.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Commissioner Bijay Amrut Kulange said out of the 193 bodies brought to Bhubaneswar, 82 bodies have not yet been identified.
The BMC Commissioner said a DNA test is being done to verify and identify the bodies in case a dispute arises over the claim of the body.
He said, ‘’We are also coordinating with the officials of various state governments including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Railway officials for the speedy identification and disposal of bodies to their relatives. We are also trying to ensure that the right person gets the body, he said.
