Odisha: Vigilance nabs BEO for graft in Dhenkanal district

Dhenkanal: Odisha vigilance Tuesday arrested Block Education Officer (BEO) of Hindol in Dhenkanal district on charges of taking Rs 10,000 as a bribe from a teacher.

The accused BEO is Santanu Kumar Mallik.

Based on a complaint against the BEO, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Vigilance laid a trap to catch Mallik, a source said.

According to the source, Mallik was caught red-handed while taking bribe from the assistant teacher whose pay allowance and dearness allowance were held up due to suspension.

The sleuths seized the entire bribe amount from Mallik.

Subsequently, the officers conducted raids at three places including Mallik’s residential house in Bhadrak’s Kuansa area. The EOW seized cash worth Rs 11.92 lakh from two raided locations. The officials seized Rs 11.10 lakh from Mallik’s Bhadrak house and Rs 82,000 of cash from his Hindol residence, the source informed.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 was registered against the accused. At the time of filing this report, the searches were still going on.

It can be mentioned here that in August 2022, Odisha Vigilance apprehended the BEO of Ghatagaon in Odisha’s Keonjhar district while allegedly taking Rs 15,000 bribe.
