Odisha weather alert June 25: Low pressure area forms over Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall likely, says IMD

Bhubaneswar:  With the southwest monsoon remaining active over Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Sunday forecasted that the low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal is very likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and Jharkhand over the next two days.

The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar in its weather forecast dated June 25, 2023, issued various warnings for heavy rainfall over several districts in Odisha.

Upto 8:30 AM of June 26: As per the Orange Warning (be updated), scattered heavy to very heavy with isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Subarnapur, Boudh, Bolangir, Sambalpur and Bargarh districts. Besides, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.

The weather agency also flagged a Yellow Warning which forecasted heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Nabarangpur and Dhenkanal districts, the IMD bulletin stated.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the state.

From 8:30 AM of June 26 to 8:30 AM of June 27: As per the Orange Warning (be updated), scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places over Bargarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi and Nuapada districts. Besides, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Boudh and Nabarangpur districts.

The weather agency also flagged a Yellow Warning which forecasted heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the state.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershower is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 29 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 35.4 degree Celsius was recorded at Jharsuguda while the lowest minimum temperature of 19.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Boudh, the bulletin informed.
