Odisha weather: IMD issues yellow warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) Saturday issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in several parts of Odisha.

For Day 1 (Valid up to 8.30 am of 13.09.2026), a Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall has been issued. Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Baragada, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.

During the same period, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada districts.

For Day 2 (Valid from 8.30 am of 13.09.2026 to 8.30 am of 14.09.2026), a Yellow Warning has been issued for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph. Such weather is very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada districts.

The weather office has advised people in the affected districts to remain cautious during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall and follow local advisories. The district administrations have also been urged to stay prepared for weather-related incidents.
