Odisha weather May 15: IMD issues heatwave warning for these districts

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Monday issued Yellow Warning for heatwave in several districts of Odisha.

The weather agency forecasted maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to gradually rise by 2 to 3 degree Celsius at many places in Odisha over the next 24 hours and no large change thereafter.

Upto 8.30 AM of May 16: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heatwave is very likely to prevail at a few places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Balangir districts, the IMD bulletin stated.

In the same timeframe, light to rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati and Ganjam districts. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of May 16 to 8.30 AM of May 17: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heatwave is very likely to prevail at a few places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Angul, Balangir and Boudh districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Gajapati and Ganjam districts. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.

In addition, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over the next three days as per the weather report released by IMD.

Impact and action suggested:

1) Heat is tolerable for general public but health concern for vulnerable people such as infants, elderly and sick people.

2) It is advised to avoid heat exposure, stay cool and avoid dehydration.

3) Farmers are advised to continue irrigation activities in sugarcane, summer maize, pulses and other crop and vegetables.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a partly cloudy sky is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 39 degree Celsius and 28 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 43.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Jharsuguda while the lowest minimum temperature of 21.2 degree Celsius was recorded at Nabarangpur, the bulletin informed.
