Aali: A woman allegedly killed her husband by stepping on his neck while he was sleeping in an intoxicated state at Malapatana village under Aali police limits in Kendrapada district Wednesday night. The accused has been identified as Manorama Sahu, 38, and the victim as Niranjan Sahu, 40.
Police stated that her son and minor daughter allegedly assisted her in the crime. According to police, Manorama confessed that Niranjan used to assault her and the children after consuming alcohol. Unable to bear the alleged torture, she decided to eliminate him.
“I wanted relief from the torture. When he was asleep in an intoxicated state, I pressed his neck with my foot and killed him,” Manorama reportedly told police. After the murder, she dragged the body outside the house and wiped the vermilion (sindoor) from her forehead.
Upon being informed, police rushed to the spot with a scientific team and launched an investigation. The body was sent to Aali Community Health Centre for postmortem. Police have taken Manorama and her two children into custody for questioning.
Meanwhile, Niranjan’s father, Sankarshan Sahu, who resides in Bhubaneswar, reached Malapatana and lodged a formal police complaint, though he did not name any specific suspects initially. “A case (435/26) has been registered and the investigation has been intensified. We are looking into all aspects of the case,” said Aali police station IIC Antaryami Srichandan.
