Niali: A woman attempted su*cide by consuming poison after her husband died of a snakebite, a source said Saturday.
According to the source, Surendra Swain, son of Natwar Swain from Ekaberuan village under Niali block of Cuttack district was plucking brinjals in his farmland when he was bitten by a venomous snake. He collapsed on the spot. Locals rushed him to Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
After learning about her husband’s death, Surendra’s wife, Latika, consumed poison at their home. She was taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after her condition deteriorated, the source added.
The couple is survived by two married daughters and a son, Tapan, 30, who is physically challenged.
