Bhubaneswar: Odisha has recently integrated a range of emergency-response features into the Odisha Yatri platform, enabling passengers to seek assistance quickly during emergencies. The initiative is aimed at making public and shared mobility safer, with features including one-click SOS, live location sharing and a shake-to-alert facility. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi recently launched new features on the app in the presence of Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and Odisha Yatri brand ambassador and actor Archita Sahu on the occasion of Local Self-Government Day. One of the key feature that has been integrated into the platform is the ‘Shake & Alert’, which allows users to trigger an emergency alert simply by shaking their phone. The feature is designed to help users seek assistance when they are unable to navigate through the app or operate their phones normally.
The app also provides a one-click SOS facility, allowing users to immediately contact the emergency response number 112 and alert their designated emergency contacts. Passengers can also share their live location with trusted contacts, enabling them to monitor their journey in real time. The safety module has been designed for both passengers and drivers, ensuring that emergency assistance is accessible to everyone inside a vehicle. Other features include quick access to police, ambulance and fire services, audio recording and sharing during emergencies, trusted contact integration and emergency helpline numbers in one place. The ‘Mark Ride as Safe’ option allows passengers to close an active alert after reaching safety. The initiative is aimed at making public and shared mobility more secure and reliable, particularly for women, senior citizens, young passengers and other vulnerable sections. Launching the app, Majhi said safe, accessible and dependable mobility was central to building citizen-friendly and prosperous cities.
He stressed that technology should be used to strengthen public confidence and enable citizens, particularly women, to travel independently and without fear. Mahapatra said the initiative reflected the state government’s commitment to developing a modern urban transport ecosystem focused on the safety, dignity and convenience of citizens. Speaking on the occasion, Sahu appealed to citizens, particularly women and young people, to use the Odisha Yatri platform and familiarise themselves with its safety features.
Odisha Yatri has emerged as an integrated mobility platform offering services such as ride booking, Ama Bus services, FASTicket spot booking and boating facilities. With the addition of the safety module, the platform aims to provide a more convenient, affordable and secure mobility experience across the state. Citizens can download or update the Odisha Yatri app to access the new safety features.
