Odisha’s Aswatha Narayana wins gold at World Skills Competition in Russia

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Aswatha Narayana has won gold medal for India at the 45th World Skills Competition being conducted in Russia. Aswatha Narayana was part of the 48-member team representing India in the competition.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Aswatha Narayana, a student of the city-based CV Raman College of Engineering for bagging the gold medal in water technology in the World Skills competition Tuesday and said the state is proud of him.

“Congratulate #Skilled In Odisha youth, Aswatha Narayana on winning India’s first ever gold medal at @WorldSkills 2019 for showcasing stellar skill in water technology. #Odisha is proud of you,” Naveen Patnaik tweeted.

The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said the Indian team created history by winning one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the competition.

“Tonight Team India created history by winning 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medal at the Olympics of skills aka @World Skills 2019 in Kazan, Russia. With the first ever GOLD MEDAL today India imprinted its presence on the global skills map. #Ab Skills Ki Bari,” the ministry tweeted.

“Since water is the world’s most critical resource, the importance of this occupation and quality of those fulfilling it, is second to none,” Narayana said.

India is among 63 countries participating in the world’s biggest international vocational skill competition.

Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) chairman Subroto Bagchi also thanked all institutions behind Odisha’s success and sought greater success in World Skill Competition to be held in Sanghai in 2021.
