Bhubaneswar, May 25: Performances of Odissi and Sambalpuri dance, Palli Nrutya and a dance drama marked the 11th annual dance festival Nrutyanjali, organised by the leading cultural organisation Debadasi, Rabindra Mandap Monday evening.
Around 35 students of the institute performed the various dances, with the major attraction of the event being the rhythmic steps of the Sambalpuri dancer.
Performances of Nadam, which is a pure dance, Basanta Pallavi, abhinaya, Chandan Charchita, Palli Nrutya left the audience spellbound. The evening become more mesmerising with a dance drama on Krushnya Namaha choreographed by Rojalin Mohapatra, noted Odissi dancer and the secretary of the institute.
“It’s been 11 years and every year we organise the dance festival. I feel great that people love the festival and appreciate our work. Many students from our institute are doing well in this field and have established themselves as leading dancers of the state,” said Mohapatra.
“The institute was formed with the intention of promoting Odissi dance in the state, specially among the young people,” she said.
In a unique gesture to promote awareness among people about the importance of plants, the organiser presented saplings to the guest instead of a flower bouquet. “This is for the first we are doing such activity for the environment. Normally during every programme we welcome our guests by giving them a flower bouquet but this time we gifted saplings to all the guests. As we will celebrate World Environment Day in June, this is just a step for the protection of environment,” said Mohapatra.
