Bhubaneswar: In a major relief to power consumers, the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) Thursday rejected the petitions filed by OHPC and OPGC on power tariff hike and kept the power tariff rate unchanged in the state.
Following the hike power tariff by10 paisa per unit on March 23, the two power generating companies along with the Grid Corporation of Orissa (Gridco) had filed review petitions at the OERC seeking additional hike in tariff. In the petitions, the power generating bodies had sought for an average hike of Rs 2 in power tariff per unit.
“OHPC had asked for income tax reimbursement of Rs 40 crore from Grid Corporation (Gridco) but the commission rejected it as it does not come under the purview of review application,” OERC’s director (regulatory affairs) Priyabrata Pattnaik told media persons.
Similarly, the OPGC had sought guarantee commission and working capital loan to reimburse in tariff and it has been rejected as well, he said.
Welcoming the decision of the OERC, president of Orissa Electricity Consumers’ Association (OECA) Ramesh Satpathy said, “We hope that the Commission will make same decision while hearing the plea of Gridco.”
