Officials visit school to probe school reopening

Malkangiri: District Welfare Officer Pradeepta Kumar Panda and ITDA Project Administrator Ramkrishna Gond visited the Tumusapali Government Ashram School in Chitrakonda to enquire whether the school actually reopened after Christmas holidays.

The action came after leading Odia daily Dharitiri reported the matter.

After the enquiry, Panda said the school authorities should have informed students and their parents regarding the school’s reopening date. The probe into the matter is on, and action will be taken accordingly, Panda added.

Reports said the school authorities had not reopened it after the winter vacation, while all other schools opened January 2.

Some parents like Ram Padhi, Imra Madakami, Bhima Padiami, Muka Padiami said the parents, who came from far off places had to suffer a lot as the school didn’t reopen after vacation. They also said the parents had to stay in nearby villages with their children as the school was closed.

The school’s headmaster, Debananda Bairagi, said they had informed parents regarding the opening of the school over phone, and had asked them to send their kids to the hostel Sunday or Monday.

Accepting his mistake Bairagi said that although they had told the parents to send their children they had not opened the school and hostel.

Around 318 students study in the school run by the District Welfare Department from Class I to X. The government has also provided many facilities to the students. Around 280 students of the school stay in the boys’ and girls’ hostels.
