Officials walk to tribal village, assure help to residents

Sajanagad: Two days after a report was published in Odia daily Dharitri about the problems of people at KC Pur, a tribal village at the foothills of Kuladiha in Nilagiri block of Balasore district, the administration woke up from slumber.

BDO Ramdas Tudu and CDPO Kanchan Ram walked to the village Thursday. Sarpanch Mahendra Singh and ward member Kapura Soren led the officials to the village.

Locals said they have been suffering without basic facilities like road, drinking water and electricity for years.

The benefits of government schemes do not reach them. The village does not have a tube well. The water available in streams and pits is their only source. The result is that the villagers fall sick frequently after drinking contaminated water.

In the absence of a road, the services of 102 and 108 ambulances are not available to the villagers. Very often patients are carried on cots to hospitals.

As there is no electricity, the people here have to depend on oil or hurricane lamps at night. The nearest Anganwadi is two km away.

The officials took stock of the situation in the village and assured the inhabitants that drinking water, electricity, road and Anganwadi will be available to them within two months.

“Children will be supplied food through the Anganwadi and the road will be repaired. A tube well will also be drilled,” the BDO said. The water pits will be chlorinated till a tube well is set up, the BDO added.
