Kamakhyanagar: An elderly man was hacked to death and his son was critically injured at Kankadasoda village under Parjang police limits in Dhenkanal district Friday night.

Some youths had allegedly passed lewd comments on the elderly man’s granddaughter. When the father-son duo confronted the youths, they were brutally attacked.

The deceased has been identified as Purnachandra Bai and the injured as his son Mohan.

The deceased’s injured son is struggling for life at Talcher government hospital.

According to a source, Bhajaman Bhoi and Sipun Bhoi had passed comments on Mohan’s daughter when she was returning home February 11. The girl narrated what had happened to her while returning home to her father and grandfather.

Finding the two youths in the village Friday evening, Purnachandra asked them why they had eve teased his granddaughter.

The duo picked up a nasty quarrel with Purnachandra. Later four more joined Bhajaman and Sipun and attacked him with sharp weapons and clubs. Hearing his father’s cries, Mohan rushed to the spot and tried to save his father. He was also beaten up severely.

Family members and neighbours rescued a profusely bleeding Mohan and admitted him at Talcher government hospital. On getting information about the incident, police reached the spot, recovered the body for post mortem and launched an investigation.

Efforts are on to apprehend the accused, it was learnt.
