Berhampur: A villager died and five others were critically injured as a truck they were travelling in hit a roadside tree and overturned before falling off the Taptapani Ghat near Mruga Vihar in Ganjam district Wednesday morning.
The deceased was Bhaskar Chandra Sahu of Olasingh village under Badapokharia Panchayat in Khurda district. The truck loaded with cashew nuts was heading for Khurda from Rayagada.
First reports said the truck dashed against a roadside tree and fell off the ghat. Bhaskar died on the spot. Five others including the driver, critically injured, were rushed to MKG Medical College and Hospital here.
Patapur police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. A case has been registered.
