Nimapara: One person died and four others sustained injuries as the car they were travelling in fell into a roadside nullah near Harishpur Square of Nimapara-Pipli road here in the early hours Monday.
The deceased was identified as Bibhudatta Sahu alias Sunil, who was driving the car. The injured are undergoing treatment at Pipli hospital.
According to sources, Sahu and four others, all residents of Narasingpur in Cuttack district, were on their way to Konark for a picnic on the occasion of Christmas. Sahu was driving the car and lost control while negotiating a curve. The car skidded off the road and fell into the water body.
They sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Pipli hospital by some locals. However, Sahu was pronounced brought dead by the doctors.
Police visited the hospital and sent the body of the deceased to Charichhaka hospital for an autopsy. A case was registered and the car was seized.
