Bhubaneswar: One person died, and nine others were injured after a concrete slab of a house collapsed allegedly due to strong vibrations from high-decibel DJ music played during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Khordha district, police said Sunday. The incident happened Saturday night, when the immersion procession was passing through the Jatni area, they said. The deceased was identified as Chintu Barik (30). Three of the injured were discharged after receiving first aid, while the others were admitted to different hospitals, they added.
Police said the use of DJ music is completely prohibited during festivals. However, around 20 vehicles carrying DJ sets, were allegedly used in the immersion procession, they said. Additional Police Commissioner Narasingha Bhol said the concrete slab, constructed along the outer side of a building, suddenly collapsed as the procession passed by, injuring at least 10 people, one of whom later died. “We are investigating the allegations levelled by locals that vibrations from the DJ music played during the procession contributed to the collapse. If playing DJ music is found to be the reason behind the incident, we will take action against those responsible,” he said.
