Keonjhar, May 21: A person was killed in an accident near Haripur Chhak in Maidankel panchayat under Sadar police limits, Thursday. The deceased was identified as Kushadhar Munda of Patina area.
Munda was going on a bicycle when a Keonjhar-bound dumper knocked him down, killing him on the spot. Eye witnesses said Munda was dragged up to 10 metres on the road.
Tension ran high in the area immediately after the incident. A large number of people from the locality trooped to the spot.
Angry over the mishap, they set the dumper ablaze and rounded up the helper of the vehicle. They tied him with a rope. Firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
Agitating people blocked the Keonjhar-Patana road for several hours with a large number of vehicles being stranded. They demanded `30 lakh as compensation for the family.
Informed, police along with a magistrate rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the irate people.
