Bhubaneswar: The state government has again allowed students for admission into seats lying vacant in various degree colleges functioning in the state for the academic year 2017-18.
The higher education department Monday asked the degree colleges including autonomous colleges to allow students to take admission in their institutes under the project Student Academic Management System (SAMS) against vacant seats and also consider slide up cases.
“The government has been pleased to consider the slide up cases sympathetically and provide another chance to students to apply against vacant seats, already existing in the colleges,” higher education joint secretary Parameswaran B wrote to principals of SAMS resources centres.
As per guidelines issued in this regard, student who had slide-up to higher option but not taken admission during the scheduled admission period, will be allowed to take admission in the higher preference college where she/he has got selected. If no vacancies exist to accommodate slide up students, then the college authorities can enhance the strength over and above the sanctioned seats for this year only.
The government asked the colleges to complete the admissions relating to the slide-up matter by October 7 without fail. For spot admissions, the students have to apply between October 9 and 11 while the merit list would be published on college notice boards October 11. The admission would be conducted October 14.
Students who have not applied online so far/not taken admission in any of the colleges/ taken admission in a particular college but desire to continue in another college/ taken out CLC but failed to take admission, are all eligible to apply in this phase, the guidelines read.
The government asked the colleges to select students at college-level on merit basis only and in the offline mode.
Student already applied online earlier need not fill up the offline application form again. They can submit the photocopy of the applicant copy applied earlier along with mark-sheets but need not deposit the application fees.
The students who cannot submit the photocopies of the earlier applications can fill up the new offline form and submit the fees (Rs 300 for general applicants & Rs 200 for SC/ST).
