Online tax payment soon in Cuttack

Cuttack: Soon people in the silver city here will have an opportunity to pay taxes and fees online to the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
Sources said the civic body has decided to introduce online tax payment system for the residents of eight wards of the city in the first phase within three months.
“Ward no. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 34 have been included under the pilot project for online tax and fee payment. The residents of these eight wards will have the opportunity to pay their holding taxes and other dues online,” said a CMC official.
CMC sources said two operators have been engaged to upload all the data on taxes and fees to CMC website. The process is expected to be finished by December.
According to sources, the municipal corporation has decided to sign an agreement with Orissa e-governance Services Limited (OeSL) for issuing various licences online.
“We have decided to issue marriage certificates and a few other documents online to people. We have prepared a format for marriage certificate and sent it to the state government for approval,” said CMC deputy commissioner Sarita Dhanwar.
CMC commissioner Gyana Das said the civic body will open a few kiosks for the online payment of taxes and fees. “We will open a few kiosks for online payment on the premises of the civic body headquarters initially. Steps will be taken to establish similar kiosks in other parts of the city subsequently,” Das added.
