OP impact: Road, power for tribal village soon

Joda: Five days after Orissa Post published a report about the miserable condition of people in a tribal village named Jankasahi in Anseikala panchayat under this bock in Keonjhar district, the administration took note of the matter and decided to lay a road to the village and provide electricity to the households.

Collector N Tirumala Nayak got the news clipping and sent it to Joda BDO Arun Kumar Mallick. The collected asked the BDO to visit the village and stake stock of the situation.

The BDO visited the village December 5 and got to know of various problems of the people and submitted a report to the collector.

Talking to Orissa Post, the BDO assured that the village will be electrified soon while the collector has given a proposal of a 4-km long pucca road to the village.

The defunct tube well will be repaired to provide water to the residents, the BDO said. Residents will also be provided IAY houses, he added.

The tribal village, 12 km from the block headquarters, is inhabited by 200 families. The village is one among scores of peripheral villages close to industrial units and mining companies, but paradoxically, the areas and the people have remained as backward as before while poverty and deprivation of basic amenities are visible everywhere.

The livelihood of most of the tribal residents is centered on agriculture, animal husbandry and daily wage labour.

The tribal village is miles away from development with no road connectivity while the residents have been leading miserable lives.  PNN
