Opposition to move no-confidence motion in monsoon session of Parliament

New Delhi: The monsoon session of Parliament will begin Wednesday and continue till August 10. It will have 18 sittings. Government has listed a substantive legislative business for the session. This includes 48 items including 46 bills and two financial matters.

However, the session is likely to be stormy one since opposition parties, including the Congress, have announced their intention to move no-confidence motions against the Narendra Modi government.

The NDA’s former ally TDP approached Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s office on Tuesday with a notice demanding a no-confidence motion against the Modi government.

The Congress and other opposition parties had decided at a meeting Monday that the motion will help them to discuss a number of “public issues”.

The government had convened an all-party meeting Tuesday, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought cooperation of all political parties to ensure smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament.

Among other Bills, the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill or the anti-instant triple talaq Bill is high on government’s agenda in this session, sources said.
