Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy Friday asked Odisha Police Service (OPS) probationers to be available on a call and behave empathetically with the public.
While interacting with OPS probationers at Lok Seva Bhawan here, Tripathy said, “The policemen should be available on mobile anytime and they should maximise use of technology.”
“Since police are the only visible government officials at public places and roads because of their uniforms, they should always behave sympathetically with the citizens. You should cultivate the traits of a responsible citizen in their personal life as well,” he suggested.
The Chief Secretary further said, “Since the salary in government sector nowadays is comparable to private sectors and government jobs provide you a sense of security, you should also prepare yourself to live up to expectations of government in serving the citizens.”
Stating that expectations from government employees are quite high now, Tripathy said timely and appropriate delivery of services is of prime importance today.
Odisha has 367 police stations, 435 fire service stations and 83 jails.
Stating that the per capita availability of police stations in Odisha is higher than other bigger states, the Chief Secretary said these provide varied scopes to police officers for expression of their talent and innovation in duties.
He advised the officers to enhance their efficiency and professionalism to meet the unprecedented challenges emerging in criminal as well as civil society.
As many as 15 probationers under training in Biju Patnaik State Police Academy led by DSP Udayabhanu Mishra participated in the interaction.
