Berhampur: Vigilance sleuths arrested an administrative officer of the Orissa Rural Housing & Development Corporation (ORHDC) here on the charge of accepting a bribe of `5000 to return the mortgaged documents of a loanee Monday.
Accused Gyanendra Swain was caught red-handed and the bribe amount seized from his possession. Later, a separate Vigilance team raided the Soubhagya Nagar residence of Swain in Bhubaneswar. The raid was continuing till this report was filed.
Vigilance sources said the complainant Ramesh Choudhury of Gurumurtipentha Sahi in Bada Bazaar area of Berhampur had taken a HUDCO loan from ORHDC in 2002 and later cleared the loan amount in phases.
However, Swain did not return his documents which he had mortgaged while taking the loan and instead demanded a bribe from him in exchange of the favour. Left with no option, Choudhury agreed to pay `5,000 as bribe and simultaneously informed Vigilance officials.
Accordingly, the Vigilance officials formed a team and nabbed Swain while he was accepting the bribe amount from Choudhury at his Ramnagar office.
Swain during his service period has been involved in 13 cases including the latest, Vigilance DSP Manoranjan Panda said. The cases are sub-judice, he added. PNN
