Orissa colts finish joint third

Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: Orissa had to be satisfied with the joint third position along with Chandigarh in the boys’ event of the 26th Junior National Baseball Championships, which concluded at the Kalinga Stadium here Friday.

Delhi emerged champions after thrashing Chhattisgarh 6-0 in the final. Amendra of Orissa was adjudged the best batsman of the tournament. Sakeel of the champion team bagged the best pitcher award, while Suvam of the runners-up side won the best catcher award.

Orissa enter semis

Orissa entered into the semifinals of the 15th Shakuntala Mishra visually-impaired National cricket tournament after beating Maharashtra by 46 runs at the KD Singh Babu Stadium in Lucknow, Friday. Orissa will meet Andhra Pradesh in the first semifinal Saturday.

Put into bat first, Orissa rode on an unbeaten century by Sukhram Majhi (125 n o) to score a mammoth 221 for one in the stipulated 20 over. Sukhram was also aided by a fine half century by Nakul (75).

In reply Maharashtra could manage only 176 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Nakul followed up his brilliant batting with a good bowling show as well to pick up two wickets and was adjudged man of the match.

Surya bags silver

Surya Paleya clinched a silver medal in the 38th National Sub-Junior Archery Championships after securing the second spot in the boy’s event at Jamshedpur, Friday. It was also the first medal for Orissa in the competition.
