Cuttack: Orissa girls won three gold medals in team events to help the state emerge joint champions along with Telangana in the 38th National Junior Rowing Championships, which concluded at the SAI Water Sports Complex at Jagatpur, Saturday.
Orissa clinched the titles in the junior girls’ singles sculls, girls’ pairs and girls’ coxless four events. However Orissa boys put up a disappointing show in the competition.
In the girls’ singles sculls final, Reshma Kumari Minz of Orissa emerged champion with a timing of 4:19.17 seconds. N Jibolata Chanu of Manipur won silver, while Ramandeep Kaur of Haryana bagged bronze medal.
In the girls’ pairs Kamala Lakra and Rity Kaudi from the state stood first with a timing of 4:3.97 seconds. Arya PS and Minu Joseph of Kerala stood second while Kelawath Bharati and V Sony of Telangana finished third.
In the girls’ coxless fours Sonali Swain, Sabita Soreng, Asmita Kerketa and Jharana Hasti from Orissa took the top honours with a time of 3:42.03 seconds. Roj Maria Josi, VS Minakshi, Sneha Biju and Sanjana S Kumar of Kerala emerged runners-up, while S Purabi, Tulasi Sriram, Tirish Gupta and Ahana Balaji of Tamil Nadu had to be satisfied with the third place finish.
