Orissa eves qualify for final round

Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: Orissa eves put up a dominating performance to win their third match on the trot Saturday against West Bengal 2-0 at Kalyani. The win enabled Orissa to top the group in the 21st East Zone Senior Women’s National Football Championships with six points. They earned the right to participate in the final round at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh starting January 2.
Orissa eves dominated proceedings from the start in their last qualifying match against hosts West Bengal and scored once each in both the halves. In-form Pyari Xaxa drew first blood in the 33rd minute and the team maintained their solitary-goal lead till the break.
After the breather, Orissa continued with their aggressive surge and Sakina Nesa doubled the lead in the 54th minute. Hosts West Bengal tried their best, but could not open their account till the last moment.
Manas takes sole lead
Top seed Manas Parida of Bhubaneswar emerged sole leader with six points after the completion of the sixth round of the State Open Chess Championships at the Secretariat Recreation Club here Saturday.
Manas is closely followed by Prabhat Ojha of Bhubaneswar, who is on second spot with 5.5 points in his kitty. Seven players are sharing the joint third spot with five points each. They are Natabara Das, Sunil Sethy, Birakishore Behera, Rabindra Moharana, M Ranjan, Sahadev Khatei and Md. Jainul Abedin.
