Cuttack, Jan 27: Orissa qualified for the semifinals of the National Sub-Junior Girls’ Football Championships after winning their second quarterfinal league match against Manipur 3-0 at the Barabati Stadium here Wednesday. Earlier the hosts had thrashed Telangana 6-0 in the first match.
Orissa came to the field with attacking intent. Bannya Kabiraj opened the account as early as the second minute. She went on to double the lead in the 39th minute and the hosts maintained their 2-0 lead till the lemon break. After the breather, Nikita Bishi struck in the 53rd minute to finish the rout.
Jharkhand will meet Bihar, while Manipur will take on Telangana in their quarterfinal league matches, Thursday.
Boys lose
Orissa suffered a narrow 1-2 loss against Assam in a match of the BC Roy Trophy Junior Boys’ Football Championship at Hoshirapur, Wednesday.
Orissa took the lead through Sooraj Hansdah in the fifth minute. Assam equalised in the 44th minute and then scored the winning goal in the 70th minute. Orissa players tried their best but could not find the equaliser till the end.
BBSR-A in final
Bhubaneswar-A entered the final of the OCA U-16 Inter-District Sumit Bose Trophy cricket tournament after beating Nayagarh by an innings and 81 runs at the BOSE Ground here Wednesday. BBSR-A will meet Cuttack-A in the summit clash at the Bidanasi Ground, January 29-31.
Trailing by 75 runs in their first innings, Nayagarh again faced a batting debacle in their second essay and bundled out for 81. Minal Parida (5/21) of Bhubaneswar-A returned with a five wicket haul with his penetrative line.
Brief scores: Nayagarh 110 and 75 (Dillip Jena 46; Minal Parida 5/21) lost to BBSR-A 266 by 81 runs.

Barabati Morning Club made it to the semifinals of the Rajalaxmi Memorial football tournament after blanking Ravenshaw Morning Club 2-0 in a quarterfinal match at the Tulasipur Sports Academy Ground here Wednesday.
