Bhubaneswar: Both the boys’ and the girls’ teams of Orissa won bronze medals in the recently-concluded National Soft Tennis Championships at Ahmedabad.
Orissa boys defeated Andhra Pradesh 2-0 in the first round. In the second round they edged past Chhattisgarh 2-1 to enter the semifinals and had to be satisfied with the bronze medal. Orissa girls thrashed Haryana 3-0, scraped past Gujarat 2-1 en route their bronze medal finish.
Coaching course
Football Association of Orissa (FAO) will organise the AIFF ‘D’ License coaching course at Cuttack, February 8-12. It is mandatory to have the AIFF D license coaching certificate in order to appear for AFC C license programme.
Gangpur eves win
Hockey Gangpur thrashed Hockey Karnataka 7-0 in the inaugural match of the Sub-junior Women’s Hockey Championships at Ramanathapuram, Wednesday. Jiwan Kishore Toppo drew the first blood in the 16th minute, while Manisha Oram (20th, 48th), Aten Topno (27th, 45th) and Jyotsna Rohidas (46th, 54th) struck a brace each.
