Orissa moots counselling cells in classes X, XII

New Delhi, April 25: In order to implement skill development activities for youths and enhance standards of skill development, minister of state for Employment and Technical Education and Training Sanjay Kumar Das Burma has suggested setting up of Career Counselling Cells in high schools and intermediate colleges for proper career guidance of students at early stage.
Participating in a meeting of group of chief ministers on skill development at NITI Aayog here Saturday, Burma has highlighted the initiatives taken for skill development in the state. The minister has emphasised the need to bring skill training programmes being undertaken by various
ministries under one ministry.
“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has focused on skill development. We have suggested to the chairman of NITI Aayog to take measures how more unemployed youths in rural areas could be benefited from the skill development programmes,” said the minister.
The minister said Orissa had signed MoU with 33 government, private industries and public sector undertakings in setting up of quality ITIs. Under National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF), the infrastructure and resources of high schools could be used optimally during off hour for skill training of youth as well as high school students, added the minister.
The minister has also proposed to convert all employment exchanges into career development centres under National Career Service programme.
Burma had attended the meeting on behalf of the Chief Minister. It was the first meeting of chief ministers on skill development.
