Orissa register maiden victory

Bhubaneswar, Dec 18: Orissa registered their first victory in the National Visually-Impaired cricket tournament after defeating Karnataka convincingly by six wickets in their second match at Gurgaon, Friday.
Opting to bat first, Karnataka posted 167 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Prakash Jayaramahya (50) and Sunil (49) played responsible knocks. Skipper Jafar Iqbal bowled a restrictive line to pick three wickets for Orissa.
In reply, Orissa made a mockery of the run chase as they cantered home in only 15 overs for the loss of four wickets. In-form Sukharam Majhi (56) and Lingaraj Routa (40) led the run chase with their brilliant batting.
Sekunta bags gold
Sekunta Kullu won the only medal for Orissa by winning a gold in the recently-concluded National Women’s Athletics Meet at Jammu. Sekunta stood first in the long jump event.
Referees selected
Five referees from Orissa have been selected by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for the 21st National Senior Women’s Football Championships to be played at Noida. They are Sudipta Das, Bishnupriya Das, Chitrambada Patra, Dibyani Shukla and Retali Baral.
