Orissa to meet Bengal in semis

Cuttack: Orissa will meet West Bengal in the first semifinal of the Junior Girls’ National Football Championship after the visitors edged out Jharkhand 4-3 via tie-breaker in a quarterfinal match at the Orissa Police Ground here Sunday.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw in the stipulated time and in the ensuing penalty shoot-out, West Bengal could score thrice while Jharkhand found the back of the net twice. In the regulation time Debnita Roy scored for West Bengal in the 50th minute and skipper Asha Kumari of Jharkhand struck in the 55th minute.

In another quarterfinal match played in this ground Delhi thrashed Mizoram 4-0. Skipper Anushka Samuel scored all the goals for Delhi in the 15th, 59th, 78th and additional time respectively. Delhi will meet Manipur in the second semifinal. Both the finals will be played Tuesday.

Sambit wins title

Sambit Pamda emerged champion in the IInd RN Das Memorial Schools’ Open Chess Championships in Bhubaneswar, Sunday. Sambit garnered a total of 6.5 points to take the top honours.

Tanmaya Kumar also grabbed the same number of points, but he had to be satisfied with the runner-up finish on the basis of tie-breaker. Amitanshu Priyadarshan finished third with six points in his kitty.
