Bhubaneswar: With a view to ensuring proper and hassle-free implementation of environment norms in industry and mining sectors, Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Friday organised a national conference on Environmental Regulatory Compliance at a city hotel here.
Officials from Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) and various industrial and mining authorities attended the conference to discuss the issue and work out solutions.
Attending the event as the chief guest, member secretary of OSPCB and special secretary of Forest & Environment department Debidutta Biswal said, “We are gathered here to discuss with industries on environmental legislation compliances. The conference will create awareness among the participants on various new environmental norms. A proper mindset is required for the noble activity.”
Joint director of Forest & Environment department A K Gupta, senior environment scientist of OSPCB D K Behera, executive director (Production), Nalco Subhendu Acharya, chairman, ICC Odisha State Council M C Thomas and co-chairman J B Pany were also present on the occasion.
Gupta said the conference is one of the best platforms for industry and mining authorities to discuss various issues relating to implementation of the conditions stipulated in permits, consent and authorisation.
Thomas highlighted the existing environment laws which are being faced with technical challenges by a large number of Indian companies, especially the MSMEs. “In the scenario of multiple regulatory compliances there is need for streamlining and regular updating on various provisions of Rules and Acts in line with the changing needs of the industries,” Thomas said.
