Laikera: Over a 100 people including children were down with diarrhoea due to food poisoning after they consumed food Monday night at a marriage party at Bagadihi village under Kirmira block of Jharsuguda district.
They were admitted to Bagadihi primary health centre (PHC). Due to lack of beds in the PHC, the patients were treated on mats. Over 14 people were later shifted to the district headquarters hospital as their condition worsened.
According to volunteers, it was not possible for a single pharmacist in the PHC to provide treatment to the huge number of people. When the chief district medical officer (CDMO) was made aware of the matter, a team of medicos from Kirmira community health centre (CHC), Mudraghora CHC and district headquarters hospital reached the PHC. The required medicines, injections and saline bottles were brought from Laikera, Mudraghora, Kirmira and Jharsuguda.
On-duty doctors said there is no need to worry as the condition of patients is improving.
