Bhubaneswar, Jan 17: Visitors to a flower show titled ‘Basant Pushpa Pradharshani’ were greeted by over 1,000 imported varieties of flowers at Nalco Nagar Chandrasekharpur, Saturday.
The annual show organised by National Aluminium Ltd Corporation (Nalco) is in its 19th edition.
Altogether 11 private nurseries as well as 77 individual gardeners participated in the exhibition. Participants will be awarded with prizes in different categories like decorative flowers and cut flowers which take into account parameters like size, form, variety, freshness and health.

“I sell flowers on the street, and so I grow flowers like rose, dahlia, marigold, zinnia etc. Selling flowers on the roadside is my source of living. However, I was encouraged to showcase my flowers at this exhibition so that visitors can be inspired to grow such plants in their gardens and make their surroundings so much more beautiful. Flowers are God’s gift and they should be grown everywhere,” said Sridhar Nag, an individual gardener.
There was also a stall where vegetables like brinjal, capsicum, tomato, and chilly were arranged beautifully by the exhibitors.
Idco chief managing director Vishal Kumar Dev inaugurated the exhibition.
“This programme is meant to raise awareness on the need to save flowers. This is being held under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of Nalco. I’m glad to be part of the occasion,” said Dev.
