Baleshwar: Over 70 people, including 30 children, were taken ill after eating at a community feast in a village in Odisha’s Baleshwar district, officials said Friday.
The incident took place during the housewarming ceremony of a man at Kharida village in Jaleswar police station area Thursday.
On Friday, almost all those who consumed food and water were affected with diarrhoea. Fifty seriously ill people were admitted to Jaleswar hospital while others were given first aid.
Hospital authorities said that all the affected people were experiencing diarrhoea and vomiting.
These may have been caused by the consumption of contaminated food or water. Samples have been collected from the village and sent for analysis, they said.
A medical team has been sent to the village to monitor the situation, an official said.
